The main
attraction of the circuit is the Pangong lake, situated at 14000 feet
(4267m), is one of the largest and most beautiful natural lakes of the
country, 130 kms long and 4 km to 6 km wide is nearly an island sea with
intensely clear water, having no outlet the water in the lake is highly
brakish and the lake’s basin houses a large wealth of minerals deposited
by the melting snow every year.
Day 01 : Leh - Karu - Chang-la - Durbuk Tangse …………130 kms
After early breakfast drive to Tangse enroute visiting the villages of Skey and Thiksey and crossing by the Channg-la (18000 feet/ 5475 m), arrive Tangse just beyond the foot of the pass with an ancient temple. Lunch enroute. Meals and overnight in tents at Tangse.
Day 02 : Tangse - Lukung - Spangmik - Leh
After early breakfast drive along the Pangong lake upto Spangmik, the farthest point to which foreigners are permitted, affords spectacular views of the mountains of the Changchenmo range to the north. After Spangmik are the glaciers and snow capped peaks of the Pangong range. After lunch drive back to Leh.
